MONTEPULCIANO (5 Km)
La splendida cittadina rinascimentale, per le sue vestigia artistiche e architettoniche, è stata chiamata la “Perla del ‘500”. Scelta più volte da fotografi e registi per servizi e realizzazioni cinematografiche, passeggiando per le sue vie è possibile visitare imponenti cantine e degustare eccellenze enogastronomiche, a cominciare dal rinomato vino. Da non perdere la splendida Piazza Grande, con il Duomo dalla facciata incompleta e il Palazzo Comunale, da cui si gode di una vista mozzafiato sulla campagna circostante. Nella valle sottostante il paese risalta la mole elegante del Tempio di San Biagio. Montepulciano è anche un centro dalla vivacissima attività culturale: tra le manifestazioni estive più note si segnalano il “Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte”, la rappresentazione popolare del “Bruscello” e la tradizione del “Bravio delle Botti” l’ultima Domenca di Agosto, quando le otto contrade storiche del paese si sfidano in una avvincente corsa con le botti al termine di più di una settimana di eventi e rievocazioni dal sapore medievale.
MONTICCHIELLO (7 km)
Un tipico borgo medievale immerso nella campagna della Val d’Orcia. Tuffatevi nelle viuzze strete e impervie del centro storico e al tramonto assicuratevi di sostare all’ingresso delle antiche mu
ra per godere di una vista mozzafiato. Tra Luglio e Agosto potete anche assistere a delle rappresentazioni teatrali che gli abitanti mettono in scena direttamente nel borgo.
CHIANCIANO TERME (11 Km)
Il paese tanto amato dal grande regista Fellini ha recentemente trovato nuova vita con le terme sensoriali completamente rinnovate e in grado di offrire molteplici servizi all’avanguardia, il tutto in un ambiente ancora incontaminato. PIENZA (15 Km
Pienza deve il suo nome attuale in onore del Papa Pio II Piccolomini che, nella seconda metà del ‘400,ne avviò la ristrutturazione al fine di concretizzare l’immagine utopica di città ideale. Tutto il borgo è un piccolo gioiello in cui immergersi, respirando l’atmosfera delle sue piccole vie e degustando il tipico prodotto locale, il pecorino.Dal paese si gode di una vista privilegiata dell’incantevole paesaggio del “Parco Artistico Naturale e Culturale della Val d’Orcia”, con gli inconfondibili campi ondulati e le famose balze cretacee.
MONTEFOLLONICO (14 Km)
Questo piccolo borgo medievale è circondato da mura che conservano ancora alcune torri cilindriche e la torre del Cassero, risalente al 1277. Si conservano inoltre le tre porte (porta a Follonica, porta del Triano e porta del Pianello), che tuttora danno accesso ad un caratteristico centro storico sicuramente meritevole di una visita.
CORTONA (35 Km)
Le primitive mura ciclopiche di questo antico Borgorisaltano ancora imponenti e ben visibili. Risalendo lungo le strette esuggestive strade del paese, si arriva a godere una stupenda vista che abbraccia tutta la sottostante Val di Chiana. Degne di menzione sono senz’altro le chiese medioevali di S. Francesco e di S. Domenico, il Palazzo Casali medioevale con facciata rinascimentale, le chiese rinascimentali di S. Maria Nuova e di S. Niccolò, nelle quali si custodiscono opere d’arte di gran pregio. Fuori dalle mura merita inoltre una visita il convento delle Celle, fondato da S. Francesco, uno dei luoghi più suggestivi della zona.
BAGNO VIGNONI (20 Km)
Il villaggio sorge all’interno del Parco Artistico Naturale della Val d’Orcia e, grazie alla vicinanza con la via Francigena (il percorso principale seguito nell’antichità dai pellegrini che si recavano a Roma) le acque che sgorgano in questo luogo vennero utilizzate fin dall’epoca romana a scopi termali.Al centro del borgo si presenta la famosa “Piazza delle sorgenti”, una vasca rettangolare di origine cinquecentesca, la quale contiene una sorgente di acqua termale calda e fumante che esce dalla falda sotterranea di origini vulcaniche.
SAN QUIRICO D’ORCIA (23 Km)
Situato lungo l’antica via Francigena, vanta una torre medioevale mozzata, una chiesa romanica ripristinata e, di fianco alla chiesa, l’impianto immobiliare (riedificato nei primi anni novanta) del quattrocentesco Palazzo degli Amerighi, in cui si ordì la congiura contro gli Spagnoli oppressori di Siena (1555-1559). Meritano una menzione particolare gli Horti Leonini, un giardino all’italiana realizzato alla fine del 1500, e la celebre cappella della Madonna di Vitaleta, sfondo di capolavori cinematografici quali “Il Paziente Inglese”.
MONTALCINO (35 Km)
La celebre città del vino, famoso in tutto il mondo, offre incantevoli panorami e numerose costruzioni medioevali, tra cui la maestosa fortezza. Il luogo ideale per risvegliare i sensi e godere del clima mite offerto dalla vicinanza al mare sorseggiando un buon bicchiere di Brunello. Merita una visita anche la rinomata Abbazia di Sant’Antimo, edificio monastico costruito a cavallo tra l’XI ed il XII secolo.

MONTICCHIELLO (7 km)
A typical medieval village immersed in the Val d’Orcia countryside. Dive into the narrow, impassable streets of the Old Town and at sunset make sure you stay at the entrance to the ancient walls to enjoy a breathtaking view. Between July and August you can also attend theatrical local performances live in the village.

PIENZA (15 Km)
Pienza has its present name in honor of Pope Pius II Piccolomini who, in the second half of the 1900s, began the renovation in order to concretize the utopian image of an ideal city. The whole village is a small gem in which to dive, breathing in the atmosphere of its small streets and tasting the typical local produce, the “pecorino”. From the village you have a privileged view of the enchanting landscape of the “Natural and Cultural Artistic Park of Val D’Orcia “, with unmistakable undulating fields and famous Cretaceous crags.
MONTEFOLLONICO (14 Km)
This small medieval village is surrounded by walls that still retain some cylindrical towers and the Cassero tower, dating back to 1277. There are also three gates (porta a Follonica, porta del Triano e porta del Pianello), which still give access to a characteristic historic town worthy of a visit.
CORTONA (35 Km)
The primitive cliff walls of this ancient “Borgo” are still impressive and well visible. Going along the narrow exuggestive streets of the village, you will enjoy a wonderful view that embraces all the underlying Val di Chiana. Noteworthy are the medieval churches of S. Francesco and S. Domenico, the medieval “Casali” palace with Renaissance façade, the Renaissance churches of S. Maria Nuova and S. Niccolò, in which are preserved works of art of great value. Outside the walls is also worth a visit the “Celle” convent, founded by St. Francis, one of the most suggestive places in the area.
BAGNO VIGNONI (20 Km)
The village rises within the Natural Artistic Park of the Val d’Orcia and thanks to its proximity to the “Via Francigena” (the main route followed in ancient times by the pilgrims traveling to Rome), the waters flowing in this place were used up from the Roman times to thermal spas. At the center of the village is the famous “Piazza delle sorgenti”, a rectangular basin of the sixteenth century, which contains a source of hot and steamy thermal water coming out of the underground foothills of volcanic origins.
SAN QUIRICO D’ORCIA (23 Km)
Situated along the ancient “Via Francigena”, it has a medieval tower, a restored Romanesque church and, next to the church property, rebuilt in the early nineties of the fifteenth-century, “Palazzo degli Amerighi”, where the conspiracy against the Spanish oppressors of Siena was decided (1555-1559). Particularly worthy of mention are the “Horti Leonini”, an Italian garden built at the end of 1500, and the famous “Vitaleta” chapel, a background of cinematic masterpieces such as “The English Patient”.
MONTALCINO (35 Km)
The town of the wine, world-famous, offers enchanting views and numerous medieval buildings, including the majestic fortress. The ideal place to awaken the senses and enjoy the mild climate offered by the proximity to the sea while sipping a good glass of Brunello. Also worthy of a visit is the renowned Abbey of Sant’Antimo, a monastic building built between the XI and XII century.
